Crews are repairing a broken 12-inch water main at 807 University Boulevard. That pipe broke Sunday afternoon and water was shut off about 3:30 a.m. Monday. There are about 34 customers without water, including residents of the University Manor Apartments.

A water station will be open by 11 a.m. for affected customers at Sligo Adventist School located at 8300 Carroll Avenue.

The first break at 831 University Boulevard was repaired and water was restored to the 15 affected customers about 3:30 a.m. The hole is being filled in and then road restoration will begin.

Crews were working to repair the first break Sunday when the second break occurred several hours laters, about a half a mile from the first break.

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is using an emergency contractor to make repairs on the second break.

The 12-inch water main that runs in this area of University Boulevard is 89 years old. The location of the second break is very close to the location of a break on the same line that was repaired in April.
