SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police are investigating a burglary and an attempted rape of a woman inside her Silver Spring apartment on Friday morning, according to a police release.

Detectives say that an unknown man attacked the woman from behind around 10:30 a.m., as she was entering her apartment in the 800 block of Northampton Drive in Silver Spring.

A struggle ensued, during which the man sexually assaulted the woman. When the victim screamed, the man ran out of the apartment in an unknown direction, according to police.

Police described the suspect, who said nothing during the assault, as wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt, and tan or gray cropped length pants.
