TAKOMA PARK, MD —Summer's going by fast, and there's just a month left to enjoy the season. There are plenty of events going on in and near Takoma Park to soak up the remainder of the summer.

There's a mix of free and paid events. Whether you're looking to go out for drinks or have fun with the whole family, there's a variety of events going on.

1. Parkland Pool Swim+Dance Open House Saturday (rain date Sunday plus water aerobics), Aug. 5

Come to Parkland Pool's Swim + Dance Open House in Wheaton/ Silver Spring! Food: Ice cream, snacks and drinks are available at our snack bar. Parkland has a large main pool and wading pool with expansive shaded grounds - a true oasis. We also have a playground and sand lot, volleyball, basketball, badminton, shuffleboard, ping pong and picnic tables. Additionally, we offer scheduled swimming lessons and water aerobics classes for all ages and abilities.

2. Office, Art, and School Supply Swap on Sun Aug 13 2-4pm at Third Space Wellness hosted by Silver Spring Timebank, Aug. 13

Bring items, take items.– We’ll be swapping basic supplies for use in office and schools, as well as items for arts and crafts projects. Don't forget a tote bag to carry your new-to-you items home. Any leftover swap items will be donated to Silver Spring Creative ReUse.

3. Golf Charity Fundraiser for Homeless Women Veterans, Aug. 27

Come out for a fun day of Golf! This will be a fundraising & charity event for Final Salute Inc. Tickets are available. I am asking for a donation to help cover the cost of organizing this event. Your entry includes free food, a drink ticket and up to 3 hours of golf! ️Final Salute's HOME Program provides transitional housing, on-site case management, food, clothing, transportation, child care subsidy/assistance, employment support and other essential supportive services to homeless women Veterans and their children.

4. Information Session - Volunteering as a Literacy Tutor, Aug. 28

The Literacy Council of Montgomery County (LCMC) transforms the lives of approximately 1,400 adults each year by providing educational programs that strengthen language proficiency, build life skills, and foster community involvement. With currently over 60 adult learners on the waiting list for a tutor to help them with their ESL or basic literacy goals, we hope you will consider joining us for a 1-hour information session to learn more about our volunteer program and how you can help transform a life in your community.

5. Live Your Dream, Aug. 29

Join Larry and Sondra Lambert along with Tammy Stephens of Galaxy Hypnosis and Tranquil Souls for an evening beginning at 7 pm to take the opportunity and create positive change within the places and spaces in your personal journey that matter the most to you. This is your plan, your dream, your intentions. Let’s do this.
