April is officially "Poetry Month" in Takoma Park, Mayor Kate Stewart announced.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — At this week's city council meeting, Mayor Kate Stewart proclaimed that April is officially "Poetry Month" in Takoma Park.
"Poetry is an essential part of the arts and humanities and affects every aspect of our life, including education, the economy and community pride and development," Stewart said.
According to Stewart, National Poetry Month is a way to introduce the community to the "pleasures and benefits of reading poetry," along with bringing poets and poetry to the public in "immediate and innovative ways."
