Shopping Local~ Silver Spring and Beyond

This is my second blog posting on Patch.com so I am writing about what is on my mind right here and right now.

So, what am I thinking about you may ask? or not!

Well what is on my mind is what it means to shop local...in full disclosure I am a shop owner in downtown Silver Spring, so this post is a little self serving..anyway as you go around getting ready for the Holiday season I would just want to encourage you..where-ever you live, work or play, to shop local.  

When you think about going to the mall, think about the small merchant in your neighborhood who does not have the big advertising budget like the big boys or the big strategist etc etc.but think about the mom and pop..or the mom or the pop...think of us who are the 'engine' of the US economy..that's what they said don't they.

I just know that since I've opened my store, On the Purple Couch, a consignment store, I think more and more about all the hard work I have put in and how much work is still to be done.  I have never worked so hard in my life and have never learnt so much in such a short time. I am proud to have a business in Silver Spring.  I am proud to have to make a payroll..ok maybe just pay the light bill and pay Matu my part-time associate to help me..I can not do it all...I am just damn proud to be out here and playing in the game and trying to achieve the American dream.  

Anyway, shop local and come down on Bonifant St.  

Stop by Kefa Cafe, stop by Danny's Hair shop stop by Pennyworth thrift store, check out the natural hair Diva's and Dude @Jah Hair studios and of course check me out On the Purple Couch at 955 Bonifant St. Silver Spring, MD for your holiday shopping needs~ home decor, chalk paint, designer wear, jewelry,gift certificates  scarves etc etc...come Holla at me if nothing else.
