The ukulele was made for Swing music! The music of 1930s and 40s is fun and easy to play on the ukulele. This class will teach the student how to get that swingy/bluesy feel in their playing through the use of closed position chord shapes and proper right and left hand rhythm techniques.

This is a two-hour workshop geared towards confident beginners and intermediate players. Can you play basic ukulele chords, change them smoothly and up to tempo? If so, then this class is perfect for you.

Hour One: Introduction to "Swing" chords
We will take a familiar song and convert the basic open-string chords into more interesting closed-string easily-fingered voicings to achieve a jazzy/swing feel.

Hour Two: Introduction to single note lead playing
Have you ever wondered how to take a solo on a song? Or what to do when you are at a jam session and someone looks at you and says "take it!"? This introductory class will equip you with some basic tools that will allow you to "take it!" and solo. We will look at simple fingerboard patterns that can be used in many musical situations. Gerald has taught this class many times to all age levels, and can guarantee that you will be soloing within 10 minutes!
