Man Hits Takoma Park Cop Car In Police Chase

A man struck a police cruiser during a chase in Takoma Park and was arrested on a slew of charges, including possession of a stolen handgun.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A Columbia man struck a police cruiser during a chase in Takoma Park and was arrested on a slew of charges, including possession of a stolen handgun, Tuesday night, police said.

Police were patrolling in the 900 block of East West Highway at about 9:30 p.m. when an officer observed a car with vehicle window tint, darker than is legal, on all four windows. The officer pulled up behind the car, which was traveling at a high rate of speed and making turns without proper signaling, police said.

The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop until he struck the front end of the patrol officer’s cruiser. Officers exited their vehicles and commanded the driver to exit his, but he refused.

An officer opened the suspect’s driver’s side door and removed him from the car, police said. Two other people were in the car and exited without issue.

The driver was identified as Demitri Desean Foster, 21, of Columbia. Police searched Foster and found a loaded handgun stolen from Baltimore County in July 2017. They also found a large amount of marijuana, indicative of an intent to sell.

Foster was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, police said.
