Montgomery County Board of Education President Brenda Wolff and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Jack Smith released the following statement in response to County Executive Marc Elrich’s recommended Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Operating Budget. “We greatly appreciate County Executive Marc Elrich’s steadfast commitment to public education as our county, state and nation face significant impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on operating costs and projected revenues. His recommended budget equals the Board of Education’s requested budget and is more than $40 million over Maintenance of Effort.  Investments in our students will advance equity and excellence for all students in MCPS and ensure a strong future economy for our county. We look forward to working with the councilmembers in the coming weeks to discuss how our operating budget will continue to meet the unique needs of each of our 161,000-plus students.” “We greatly appreciate County Executive Marc Elrich’s steadfast commitment to public education as our county, state and nation face significant impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on operating costs and projected revenues.
