Residents Asked To Attend Meeting On New Takoma Park Police Chief

Residents can attend a public hearing on the characteristics of the police chief June 21 at the New Hampshire Recreation Center.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Takoma Park City officials are asking for the public's help in searching for a new police chief. Before they begin their recruitment process, officials want to hear what qualities residents wish for in the person replacing former police chief Alan Goldberg, according to Montgomery Community Media.

“At this time, we have not formally engaged a recruitment firm,” Deputy City Manager Jason Damweber said. “We do anticipate doing so, but not until we have a clearer sense about the qualities and characteristics we’ll be seeking.”

Takoma Park has a council/manager form of government, so the council establishes policies and hires a city manager and staff. After consulting with Council, staff and community members on the desired characteristics of a new Police Chief, the city will post a job announcement for the position.
