Sandwiches Fit for a Veep Coming to Maryland, Virginia, the District

Vice President Joe Biden's favorite sandwich shop to open a dozen locations in the area.

Vice President Joe Biden’s favorite sandwich shop, Capriotti’s, is coming to a dozen locations across Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, the Washington Business Journal reports.

DC native and entrepreneur George Vincent Jr. has reportedly agreed to open 12 locations in the metro area. Vincent is already in discussions regarding downtown Washington and Rosslyn locations and is searching for 10 other local spots, according to the report.

Vincent says he is fond of Capriotti’s sandwiches, getting them on trips to Delaware beaches, and told the Journal, “I was shocked this hadn’t caught on in the DC area.”

He said a $10-11 price for a nine-inch sub, chips and a drink will entice locals who are accustomed to spending more than that.

Capriotti’s rose to national attention when Vice President Biden catered his first inaugural lunch with the chain’s “Bobbie” sandwich - house-roasted turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Last October, Politicker.com reported that Biden and his team ordered the Wilmington, DE-based sandwiches for lunch during preparations for the debates.

What do you think? Does the area need another sandwich chain, or are Subway, Quiznos, Jimmy John’s and Potbelly enough to handle the demand?
