Takoma Park Police ID 2 Men Shot By Off-Duty Pentagon Officer

Dominique Williams of Hyattsville and James Johnson of District Heights died Wednesday after being shot by the officer in a parking lot.

TAKOMA PARK, MD – Takoma Park Police have identified the two Maryland men who were shot and killed by an off-duty Pentagon Force Protection police officer on Wednesday morning.

Dominique Williams, 32, Hyattsville, and James L. Johnson, 38, District Heights were shot and killed by the officer following an incident just after 5 a.m. the parking lot of a Takoma Park condominium complex, police said Thursday.

“We understand that there in tremendous public interest in this case,” police officials said in a news release Thursday. “We ask that the public remain patient as we fully investigate this incident.”

Police said on Wednesday that officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the parking lot of the Takoma Overlook Condominiums located on New Hampshire Avenue. Takoma Park police officers were approached by an off-duty Pentagon Force Protection officer who said he observed what appeared to be a car being broken into. He directed the suspects to stop but instead, police said they left in a vehicle at which time the officer fired his gun at them, police said.

Both the men were taken to Prince George’s Hospital with gunshot wounds and died from their injuries, police said. The Pentagon Force Protection Agency was notified of the incident, which is being investigated by the Takoma Park Police Department and Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
