An 18-year-old Prince George's County man was arrested for Sunday afternoon's shooting on a Red Line train near Takoma.

TAKOMA, MD — An 18-year-old Prince George's County man was arrested for Sunday afternoon's shooting on a Red Line train near Takoma, Metro Transit Police announced.

Jermaine Brown, of Seat Pleasant, was taken into custody by officers at a motel in Capitol Heights. Brown is charged with a single-count of first-degree assault in Montgomery County.

The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday on an inbound Red Line train approaching the Takoma Station, police said. The shooting happened in Maryland before the train crossed into DC.

Investigation revealed the 14-year-old shooting victim is Brown's half-brother, and detectives think Brown did not mean to shoot him. Detectives instead believe Brown meant to shoot at three individuals he got in an argument with while aboard the train, police said.

The incident was captured by digital video cameras aboard the railcar, and footage shows Brown pulling a gun and firing multiple times, police said. One round struck Brown's half-brother and two other bullets struck the railcar.

After the shooting, the three other individuals exited the train at Takoma and boarded a train in the opposite direction. They got off at the Silver Spring Station a short time later, police said.

Brown's half-brother was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. He is in stable condition.

MTPD detectives are working to identify and locate the three people involved in the incident (pictured below).

Anyone with information on their identify or location is asked to call the MTPD Criminal Investigations Division at 301-955-5000 or text MyMTPD (696873). The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible, police said.
