"ASK LORI" About Aspartame
Nutritional consultant, ready and willing to answer your questions.
I get lots of questions about aspartame or diet sodas, etc. Here is one question I received about the artificial sweetener coupled with my answer.
Dear Lori,
Is aspartame (an artificial sweetener found in diet products) really that bad for me? I thought diet sodas were better for me for weight loss, but I have read a lot of contradictory information. What do you think?

Dear Dieting,
I think the only reason aspartame is on the market is because of politics, money and greed — not for a lack of credible, scientific evidence of its dangers.
And you asked if it is really that bad for you. Well, let's see. If you can get past the methanol (wood alcohol), formaldehyde (embalming fluid), formic acid and free form or isolated phenylalanine and aspartic acid — all constituents of aspartame, I suppose you won't be too bothered.
Of course, your brain might not appreciate the game of Russian Roulette that you are playing. Actually your brain might consider this game worse because every chamber of the gun is loaded. "Hmm, how many of my cells will die with this sip?"
Aspartame, also known as Equal, Nutra Sweet or Spoonful is a toxin and has been scientifically proven to contribute to Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, migraines, seizures, depression, blindness, endocrine problems, birth defects and more, including death.
And I'm sorry to break it to you...but it doesn't even help with weight loss. It actually contributes to obesity as toxins are stored in fat cells and aspartame over taxes the liver. Whenever the liver is burdened, weight gain is a likely side effect.
There is much more to be said about the dangers of aspartame, but hopefully that suffices for now.
So - is aspartame bad for you? If you are human it is absolutely terrible for you.
My advice is to drink pure water. Best of luck and health.
Sincerely,
Lori
