Friends & Farms: Change the Way You Buy Groceries

As we wave goodbye to September, who flitted through and barely stopped to say hello, it is time to turn towards the crunch of leaves and early morning crispness that October brings. In addition to this change of seasons, the contents of our refrigerators, pantries and plates change as well. Gone are the sweet white ears of local Maryland corn, the tiny field-strawberries of summer and instead, we welcome the warm, rich and hearty fall flavors of the season.

While your local farmers market or CSA may be winding down for the summer, there is still a way to get fresh, regional and sustainable food on your table.  Friends & Farms , a new company based out of Columbia, Maryland, offers a fresh perspective on sourcing food for your family, all year round.

Each week, the Friends & Farms team goes out to a network of 70 producers in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and selects the freshest, most wholesome and delicious items they can find–think meat, seafood, dairy, bread, fruits and veggies. The items are then bundled up in baskets, portioned out for one, two, or four people.

The good news for our fellow Lutherville-Timonium & Cockeysville friends is that they have a convenient pick up location, right in town. Grace Fellowship Church in Lutherville-Timonium hosts the Friends & Farms pick-up truck and tent on Thursday mornings from 11 a.m – 1 p.m. – perfect for picking up during your lunch break.

Friends & Farms customers sign up for 13 weeks of baskets, or a quarter, and each Saturday, they receive an email with recipe suggestions for the next week’s basket items. The offerings come in different sizes, for different sized households:
