3/14/12, Hutzler’s, Where Baltimore Shops by Michael J. Lisicky
For 132 Years, Hutzler Brothers Company was a beloved part of the Baltimore retail and cultural scene. Hutzler’s Towson, their first suburban store, opened in 1952. In Mr. Lisicky’s book, John Waters recalls the opening because he grew up in Lutherville. He said, “I don’t think you’re going to get anybody to say,’ I hate shopping at Hutzler’s.’ It was the best we had.” Mr. Lisicky will bring to life this lost Baltimore institution.
3/21/12, Flames Beyond Gettysburg: The Confederate Expedition to the Susquehanna River, June 1863
Scott L. Mingus, Sr. will tell of the Confederate troops’ movement north leading to the battle of Gettysburg. Drawing from his extensive research, he will relate the crucial role that the Northern Central Railroad, which runs through Lutherville, played in the Civil War strategy by both sides. A York, PA, resident, Mr. Mingus has written several books and gives tours of Civil War site. He is in demand as the country observes the 150th. Anniversary of the War of Rebellion.
3/28/12, Combat Correspondents, The Baltimore Sun in World War II
Long time resident Joseph R. L. Sterne will share stories of these local men who risked harm by reporting the story of World War II right from the battle front. They filed stories from the front lines of history. Three received the Pulitzer Prize. Mr. Sterne completed his 25 year career as the editor of the Editorial page of the Sunpapers.
