Police Funeral: I-95, I-83 Road Closures Planned In Baltimore
Traffic will be impacted on I-95, I-83, I-695 and I-895 due to the funeral procession for Baltimore Police Detective Sean Suiter.
BALTIMORE, MD — Thousands of police attended the funeral for Detective Sean Suiter on Wednesday. The 43-year-old was fatally shot while investigating a 2016 triple homicide in west Baltimore, police said. An 18-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department, Suiter leaves behind a wife and five children.
Suiter's funeral was held at Mount Pleasant Church Wednesday morning. A massive funeral procession left the church following the service; the hearse, escorted by police motorcycles at the end of the procession, was still en route to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens on Interstate 83 as of 4 p.m.
I-95, which had been closed for the procession near Chesaco Road, had reopened by 4 p.m.

"If you happen to observe the funeral procession while driving, please pay attention to the road ahead for the safety of yourself and other drivers," the Maryland Transportation Authority said in a statement.
Original Traffic Advisory: Drivers are advised to avoid I-95 north, I-895 and southbound I-95 approaching I-695 on the northeast corner due to the procession from the funeral service to the burial site. As of 3:30 p.m., the procession was still traveling toward the cemetery and road closures remained in effect.
NOTE: During the funeral procession, ALL Balt City NB I-95 & I-895 traffic will be diverted into NB I-95 Express Toll Lanes (tolls waived). The funeral service for Suiter took place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Mount Pleasant Church, 6000 Radecke Avenue, Baltimore. Radecke Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Cedonia and Hamilton Avenues from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday for the funeral, the Baltimore Department of Transportation advised.
After the funeral ends, a procession was planned to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens via I-95 north to I-695 west to I-83 north to Padonia Road. The procession is expected to take place around 1 p.m.
Following the service at Mount Pleasant Church, state transportation officials said these traffic restrictions would be in place for the procession:
- All mainlines of northbound I-95 will be closed, plus access from northbound I-895 (Harbor Tunnel Thruway) and Moravia Road.
- Drivers will be diverted into the northbound I-95 Express Toll Lanes. (Tolls will be waived.)
- Northbound I-95 traffic will have the option to exit at MD 43/White Marsh Boulevard or return to mainline northbound I-95.
- As the procession passes, I-95 and I-895 will reopen, and express tolls will be reinstated.

Among those speaking at the funeral were Gov. Larry Hogan, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh and Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis. Friends, relatives, loved ones and colleagues of Suiter will also participate, along with Bishop Clifford Johnson and the Mt. Pleasant Choir.
