On Sunday, March 12, 2017 — 30-plus years later — that baby girl gave birth to her son at the very same hospital where she was born.
“Luckily, GBMC is where my OB/Gyn delivers. We were very excited to find out that I would be delivering at the same hospital where I was born,” said Ashley Joshi. Ashley and her husband, Aditya “AJ” Joshi, both added that they are very excited to have their first child almost 10 years after they first met and that “the grandparents, David and Lory Brandt along with Vasant and Aparna Joshi, can’t wait to spoil their first grandchild.”

The baby was born at a little over 40 weeks. Ashley and AJ have named their little boy, Kieran Aditya Joshi. He was born seven pounds, eight ounces and 20.5 inches long.
Ashley, who is the oldest of three children, added that her parents were at GBMC for the delivery of her baby and were thrilled that her daughter returned to the same hospital.
"They think it's amazing," Ashley said.
Averaging approximately 4,000 baby deliveries annually, GBMC is consistently ranked among the busiest hospitals in Maryland for births.
“Over the past 51-plus years, we’ve welcomed more than 225,000 babies and it’s a great to have Ashley— our 100,000 baby — return to GBMC,” said John B. Chessare, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.H.E., President and Chief Executive Officer of the GBMC HealthCare system. “Second generation GBMC babies have given birth to their babies. but what makes Ashley’s story different is that she made headlines over 30 years ago for being the 100,000 baby born at our hospital.”
Ashley, 30, and AJ, 30, met in 2007, while students at the University of Maryland, and started dating in 2012 and were engaged two years later. They will be celebrating their two-year anniversary on May 9. Ashley found out that she was pregnant in June 2016.
This was Ashley’s first pregnancy. Today, both Ashley, a civil engineer, and AJ, a computer engineer, reside in Baltimore City, her parents, formerly of Rodgers Forge, reside in Stevensville, Maryland.
