3 Events Coming To Hampton National Historic Site

Mother's Day and Juneteenth events are among those planned at Hampton National Historic Site in Towson in the next month.

From NHS: On The Plantation: The Overseer’s House, Slave Quarters and Farm Tour, Sunday, May 20 & June 3, 2018, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Dressed in Antebellum period attire, Park Ranger Anokwale will guide visitors through the authentic slave quarters and overseer’s house and give voice to the enslaved African Americans and European Indentured Servants who made the Ridgelys’ lavish lifestyle possible. Participants will have the opportunity to experience first hand, replicas of items used during the 1800s on the plantation such as an iron collar and shackles.

Mother’s Day at Hampton NHS
Sunday, May 13, 2018, 12 pm - 3:00 pm
Come celebrate Mother’s Day in an unique way with all that Hampton National Historic Site has to offer. Special guided tours of the historic garden will be given. Enjoy tea and biscuits at the visitor contact station from 1 pm to 3 pm. Stories will be shared about the women of the Hampton estate including the enslaved mothers who served the Ridgelys for more than 100 years. A pink carnation will be given to all mothers.

Juneteenth: Remembering & Celebrating Freedom
Sunday, June 17, 2018, 2-4 pm

Please join us on the Hampton National Historic Site’s farm in front of the overseer’s house for festivities. All ages are welcome: African drumming and dancing by the Kuer Khaleyi African Dance Company: 2:15 pm - 3 pm, Storytelling in the African oral tradition by Co-founder of the National Association of Black Storytellers, Mama Linda Goss, Ranger Anokwale, Kay Merrill, President of the Griots’ Circle and Bunjo Butler.
