Hoverboard Battery Caused Towson Apartment Fire: Official

A Towson apartment fire broke out Wednesday night, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

TOWSON, MD — Fire broke out at an apartment in Towson Wednesday night, according to officials. Nobody was injured, the Baltimore County Fire Department reported.

"A hoverboard battery that exploded" caused the blaze, Fire Lieutenant Travis Francis told Towson Patch. The person in the apartment "heard it and got out and called 911," Francis said.

Crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Stonewain Court at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Those first at the scene saw smoke showing from an apartment building and called for backup, according to the Providence Volunteer Fire Company, which sent crews to the one-alarm fire.

The fire in the second-floor apartment was knocked before 8 p.m., the Baltimore County Fire Department reported.
