ACTC Reaches a Milestone ... On week 14, Saturday, September 7, the crew of eight volunteers celebrated a "Topping Out." For this symbolic version of an ancient building tradition, Paul Dickover nailed a tree branch to the peak of the final one of 11 trusses raised that morning to form the roof of the center's new front section. Originating in ancient Scandinavia, when the last wooden beam had been added to a new building, a pine tree or bough would be hammered into place on the gable. This signified respect for the trees that were sacrificed for providing wood that gave life to the building and bestowed good fortune on its occupants. Thanks to Julie C. and Cathy B. for the lunch break. Next week the dedicated, hard working crew will begin to add plywood sheeting and shingles for the roof.
Volunteers possessing any level of building/renovating expertise (or none at all) are welcome to participate by calling Charlie Utermohle at 443-752-2336 or emailing him at 35International@comcast.net.
