Baltimore County Fire Lieutenant Killed in Motorcycle Crash: Police

Lt. Hubert Harrison was on his way home from working a shift in Towson, police reported.

A lieutenant from the Baltimore County Fire Department has died in a double-fatal motorcycle crash in Laurel, according to officials.

Lt. Hubert Earl Harrison Jr., 63, finished his shift working fire dispatch in Towson at 4 a.m. Sunday and was on his way home to Bowie when his 2014 Honda Gold Wing was hit head-on by another motorcycle, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

Both motorcyclists—Harrison, of Quill Point Drive in Bowie, and 23-year-old Fahad Iqbal, of Basswood Court in Laurel—were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The crash occurred in the 11500 block of Laurel Bowie Road/MD 197 at approximately 4:35 a.m., police reported.

Iqbal had been headed north on MD 197 and Harrison was headed south when for reasons that are under investigation, police said Iqbal crossed into the southbound lane while on a slight curve in the road and hit Harrison head on.

Harrison had been a member of the Baltimore County Fire Department for almost 29 years, having been promoted to paramedic/firefighter in 2004 and lieutenant in 2009, according to Baltimore County police.

Most recently, he was working fire dispatch, assigning equipment and personnel to emergency calls, authorities reported.

“This is a terrible loss for the Fire Department and an even greater tragedy for Lt. Harrison’s family,” Baltimore County Fire Chief John Hohman said in a statement. “We offer heartfelt condolences to his wife and loved ones, and will offer all the support we can in the difficult days ahead.”

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the collision.
