Baltimore County Public Schools to Kick Off 2016-2017 Year This Week

When does school start in Baltimore County?

TOWSON, MD — School starts for students in Baltimore County Public Schools this week, and several events are in store to help get kids ready.

Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 24, for Baltimore County public school students.

Before the big day, there will be a backpack giveaway at White Marsh Mall on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Also hosting backpack giveaways on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, from 3 to 7 p.m. are the Randallstown Community Center, 3505 Resource Drive; Banneker Community Center, 27 Main Ave., Catonsville; Sollers Point Multi-Purpose Center, 323 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk.

These health centers will offer school immunization walk-ins Aug. 22 to Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

Teachers went back to school on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

After school starts, there will be two holidays in the first month: On Monday, Sept. 5, classes are canceled for Labor Day; and on Monday, Sept. 12, school is out for professional development day.

The State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon will visit Loch Raven High School in Towson and four other schools around the county — in Pikesville, Catonsville, Dundalk and Perry Hall — to usher in the new academic year. The visit at Loch Raven is set for 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
