BCPS Superintendent Announces Her Retirement

Myriam Rogers, the superintendent for Baltimore County Public Schools, announced Thursday that she would be retiring from her post in July.

TOWSON, MD — Myriam Rogers, who serves as the superintendent of the Baltimore County Public Schools, announced Thursday that she will retire from her post effective July 1.

A release issued by the school system indicates Rogers started her career in education as a chemistry teacher at Woodlawn High School, and returned to the county as the superintendent in July 2023.

In a letter announcing her retirement, Rogers said she came to the decision "after thoughtful reflection and conversations with my family and loved ones."

A joint statement issued by the county's Board of Education Chair Jane Lichter and Vice Chair Robin Harvey described Roger's looming departure as a "huge loss" to the students, staff and wider community.

"BCPS is undoubtedly better because of her vision," the statement said.

The school district, which is the third largest in Maryland, has not indicated who will be taking over the posting.

In comments to The Banner, Rogers said she would not be involved in selecting her successor.

The announcement comes months after the Maryland Inspector General for Education determined that Rogers violated her work contract after she failed to move to Baltimore County. The watchdog launched its investigation after receiving a complaint that Rogers worked remotely at times without the board's knowledge or approval.
