I figured out why I have been rejected by the head honcho at the computers of The Patch. They do not like that I take some of the stories I have written on Word and try to transfer them to this blog space. They are written for the Patch and for Frederick News Post and it is easier to write them on Word because Word has spell check and grammar check. I want them perfect and so I write them first on Word.

I guess the computer King wants me to write them first right here and to check the spelling and grammar myself and not to depend on Spell Check.

When I worked at The Diamond Press, a printing facility for eight years from 1952 until 1960, we had what were called then proofreaders. These guys and gals read every word that was printed on the grocery circulars, now called flyers before it went to press for printing as it was called.

Sometimes the proofreaders missed something and they would get called down by the boss or the client if it was on his printing job.

As HL Mencken told Dad many years ago when HL was the Sunpapers editor and Dad handwrote his letters to the editor weekly. HL typed Dad a note and in it, it said "handwritten letters to the editor are cause for erros." Of course erros was meant to be errors and possibly he typed it wrong or he was being facetious. This letter to Dad, if I had the original would be worth thousands. I have a copy of it, not the original which got lost after Mom died.

So the moral of this story is, do not handwrite any letters to the editor, do not type into Word your story or letter and just go ahead and type it into the place supplied to you by the King of editors( the top machine in the comp system at the Patches. and wait patiently for him or it to publish your remarks and letters.  Remember, the computer is the boss, you only use your fingers to make it move and do not type too fast because you will get an email from HL who is now up in Heaven directing the typing on the computer and he surely now in his late age does not allow handwritten letters to God or the Angels.
