TOWSON, MD — Black & Decker is expanding its presence in Baltimore County, adding a second facility in addition to its Towson location. Hundreds of new jobs will come with the expansion, state officials say.
"Stanley Black & Decker has a long history in Maryland, and we are excited to be working closely with them on their expansion, which will support the addition of 400 new jobs," Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement Tuesday.
Black & Decker began in 1910 in Towson, where it was credited with a revolutionary invention.

The 31-acre Stanley Black & Decker headquarters on Joppa Road in Towson houses training facilities, research and development and other offices in 565,000 square feet of space.
Next, Black & Decker plans to invest $8.5 million to build out a new facility in the White Marsh-Middle River area, according to a statement from Baltimore County.
At the 92,000-square-foot development in Greenleigh at Crossroads, workers will focus on marketing, human resources, finance as well as electrical and electro-mechanical engineering, officials said.

"As Stanley Black & Decker continues to grow, we need to continually infuse our business with innovation-minded people who are excited about building the innovations that will change the world tomorrow," Jeff Ansell, a Stanley Black & Decker executive, said. To bring new ideas to life, the company opened a "makerspace" in Towson in 2017.
"We continue to find those [innovation-minded] people right here in Maryland and we are proud to expand our operations in a place that we’ve called home for nearly 110 years," Ansell said.
The state of Maryland and Baltimore County have been "strong partners throughout this expansion process," Ansell reported.
The Maryland Department of Commerce has approved a $2 million conditional loan through the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund; and the company is also eligible for various tax breaks like the state’s Job Creation Tax Credit, according to a statement from the governor's office.
Baltimore County is providing a $200,000 conditional loan to assist with the expansion. A resolution to support the Maryland state loan will be discussed at the Feb. 18 Baltimore County Council session.
“For a highly-innovative company like Stanley Black & Decker to continue growing, we know that having the right workforce base is critical," Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill said.
Added Gill: "Maryland offers one of the most highly-educated and highly-skilled workforces in the country that gives global companies like Stanley Black and Decker a competitive advantage."
