Deadly Towson Hit And Run: Police Charge Marriottsville Man

BREAKING: Police filed manslaughter charges in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian crossing Dulaney Valley Road New Year's Eve in Towson.

TOWSON, MD — Charges have been filed in the New Year's Eve hit-and-run crash in Towson that resulted in the death of a college professor. Police announced the charges Thursday morning, more than a month after the crash.

John Hurley Marking Jr., 34, of the 7500 block of Ridge Road in Marriottsville, is charged with negligent manslaughter, criminally negligent manslaughter and traffic offenses, such as failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure of the driver involved in an accident to render reasonable aid to an injured person.

Court records show a warrant was issued for Marking's arrest Monday, and it was served Wednesday. Police said he was released late Wednesday night after posting $20,000 bond.

The charges relate to the death of Thomas Charles Gluick, 62, who was crossing Dulaney Valley Road at Fairmount Avenue when he was hit by a truck before 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

He was reportedly airlifted to shock trauma, where he underwent several surgeries.

Gluick was visiting from Georgia, where he was an assistant professor of chemistry at Georgia Gwinnett College. He died Sunday, Jan. 12, according to police.

A scheduling hearing in the deadly hit-and-run case is planned for April 29 in Baltimore County District Court.
