Do Not Fear, Cheer You On

When I was 12, the president of the USA Franklin Delano Roosevelt known as FDR died. Not many people knew he was in a wheelchair. We did not have TV then so the only time we saw him was on the weekend when we went to the movies and they showed the news of the week. He had
Polio when he was younger and he could not walk and this was kept from the public.

During the second World War, he said "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself." He wanted to reassure the public that we would be fine during the war and that we would win. Many of us in life fear lots of things. Some we should fear and other things  we should try not to let them get the best of us with the fearful thoughts.

When I was a competitive ballroom dancer,I did not let fear destroy my joy in doing competition dancing. I figured that just attempting to dance was a feat in its self Others would cry when they did not win an award. I decided that just going out there and dancing was an award I had given to me and that I would enjoy the time whether I won or lost.

I did not call it losing; I called it attempting and excelling and therefore I was a winner with or without a trophy or medal.

Anything we try when we are older is a blessing to our body and our mind. We enhance our lives because we have the courage to go out and do things regardless of our now age.

Just trying to evaluate and going about doing something new is a real dividend and it is its own compensation, just because we had  desire to try.

It is more rewarding than sitting and doing nothing and our minds and souls benefit from our efforts. Whether it is ballroom dancing, playing golf, going to the theater, other sports; all of this increases our brain's capacity to still think and prosper at any age.

Do not think that just because your new label is senior citizen, you are a senior because you have lived this long and you have become wise with age, happiness, sorrow and all that is about you.

They had a TV show which featured a spirited woman who turned 105 recently and to look at her lovely face; it is truly inspiring. She exercises and still lives life to its fullest.

So do not let fear rule you and rule you out what you can still accomplish. We are still 'young' enough to enhance our lives with new events and new possibilities of accomplishment.  Do not fear, cheer yourself on and on you will be triumphant.
