Dulaney Plaza Officially Announces Fresh Market

Store replaces Super Fresh, which left last year.

It had been no secret since the , but the owners of Dulaney Plaza officially announced Wednesday the new tenant for the space once occupied by Super Fresh.

Fresh Market will open a 20,000-square foot store in the location later this year. Workers have begun remodeling the building, but the exact timing for the new store's opening hasn't been determined.

Super Fresh left the shopping center on Dulaney Valley Road in 2010 as part of a move by its parent company to close some of its under-performing locations. Two nearby Super Fresh stores at the Towson Place shopping center on Goucher Boulevard and on Aylesbury Road in Timonium are still open.

Fresh Market is, as , an upscale grocer. The store sells products like organic produce, wild-caught seafood, vegan beauty products and fresh-baked bread. The chain, founded in 1982, has more than 100 stores, most of them in the south and along the East Coast. The chain has three other stores in Maryland, in Baltimore, Annapolis and Rockville.

Lawrence Taubman, the managing partner of Taubman Properties, which owns Dulaney Plaza, said in a press release that Fresh Market will use less space than Super Fresh and help bring new business to the center.

"The traffic The Fresh Market will generate will make this space even more enticing to the right retailers. From Towson Town Center mall shoppers to the residents in the surrounding neighborhoods, these two new stores will fill a very important niche and make the shopping experience at Dulaney Plaza better than ever," Taubman said in the release.
