An Evening with Chris Smither

Thursday, September 23rd
CHRIS SMITHER
Tickets $22.50 – Showtime 8:00 pm

Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for more than 40 years, Chris Smither is truly an American original.  Having released twelve albums since the early 1970s, Chris is a profound songwriter, a blistering guitarist and, as he puts it, a 'one-man band to the bone.' Chris melds the styles of his two major influences, Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, into his own signature guitar sound.  His music continues to draw deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets and humanist philosophers.  Reviewers praise his dazzling guitar work, gravelly voice and songwriting. Acoustic Guitar magazine has written that "Smither sings about the big things - life, love, loss - in a penetrating and poetic yet unpretentious way."   "With a weary, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate." ~ New York Times.  He may be best known for writing "Love You Like A Man" which Bonnie Raitt and most recently, jazz great Diana Krall have covered.  His music has also been covered by numerous other artists and  featured in various soundtrack albums, independent film, television and commercials. Almost always a solo performer, Chris tours nationally and internationally, performing over 150 concerts a year at clubs, theaters and festivals.  Chris' newest record TIME STANDS STILL, came out on his own Mighty Albert imprint through Signature Sounds Records in September 2009.   (www.smither.com)
