Carroll County’s most exciting concert series comes to Baltimore! Common Ground on the Hill brings its rich tradition of top-ranked roots music to Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church in Towson, beginning with the December 16th Breakin’ Up Christmas concert by Walt Michael & Co. Hammer dulcimer virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist Walt Michael and his group will be joined by special guest Barry Mitterhoff of Hot Tuna, tearing up the stage with the infectious rhythms of Appalachia. All concerts in this new series will take place on Fridays monthly through April, 2012.
Having played in venues from the White House to the Lincoln and Kennedy Centers, the 13th Winter Olympic Games, and radio and concert halls across America and Europe, Walt founded Common Ground on the Hill in 1994, a nonprofit dedicated to forging greater mutual understanding through exposure to and participation in the traditional arts. In its 18 years, CGOTH has grown to include the Zepp Center for Nonviolence and Peace Education, two monthly concert series, two Traditions Weeks of classes and concerts on the McDaniel College campus, the Common Ground on the Hill Festival – a weekend of music, dance, crafts, food, impromptu jam sessions, and continuous musical performances on 4 stages, and the venerable Deer Creek Fiddlers’ Convention, both at the Carroll County Farm Museum,– and now this venture into Baltimore. Where else can you learn, jam, listen and mingle with legendary musicians and craft masters?
It is this depth, diversity and excitement which Common Ground on the Hill brings to Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church. Ideally located at 6200 North Charles Street (across from Eddie's Supermarket and Starbucks), BMWPC offers plentiful parking and a central location for area music enthusiasts.
