Tractor-Trailer Moved But Delays Continue On I-695 Near Towson

A disabled tractor-trailer caused hours of delays on the Baltimore beltway Friday morning near Providence Road and Loch Raven Boulevard.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD โ€” A disabled tractor-trailer blocked several lanes on the inner loop of Interstate 695 Friday morning, snarling traffic near Towson for about 12 hours. Police urged drivers to avoid the inner loop at Loch Raven Boulevard.

By 11:38 a.m., the State Highway Administration reported the tractor-trailer had been moved to the right shoulder.

The right lane on the inner loop and the ramp from Loch Raven Boulevard to the inner loop were closed, state highway officials reported before noon.

Officials said the tractor-trailer became disabled around 11:45 p.m. Thursday between the Providence Road and Loch Raven Boulevard exits.

It remained in the beltway โ€” blocking two left lanes and the left shoulder โ€” through the morning rush hour.

The wide load tractor-trailer was carrying a "massive piece of equipment and will be difficult to move," according to WBAL Radio.

Backups had developed along the beltway, with police saying the closure could lead to extensive delays.

With traffic stacked up to the I-83 exit as of 7:40 a.m., Fox 45 recommended taking this alternate route: I-695 to Charles Street to Kenilworth Drive to Bosley Avenue to Fairmount Avenue to Goucher Boulevard to Joppa Road.
