Hazmat Crews Called To Towson University

TOWSON, MD — Hazardous materials personnel were called to the Towson University campus Wednesday, according to Baltimore County public safety officials. Within an hour, officials said they had determined the scene was safe.

Crews were dispatched to SECU Arena at 5:12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.

The call was for an unknown substance in the 8000 block of York Road, so authorities said that hazmat crews were among those responding.

The building was emptying after an event, the fire department reported. It was commencement.

According to Fox Baltimore, a graduating senior released something while walking across the stage.

No injuries have been reported, according to officials.

After 6 p.m., crews were clearing the scene after determining that there was no hazardous material.
