Jury Duty Scam Hits Baltimore County: Don't Become a Victim

The Baltimore County Police Department warns residents of impostors claiming to be from the sheriff's office.

Baltimore County, MD — Authorities say that scammers are preying upon Baltimore County residents by claiming citizens have missed jury duty and must pay a fine to clear their names.

The scammers pretend to be from the Baltimore County Sheriff's Office.

They claim the resident has missed jury duty and needs to purchase a prepaid debit card, calling back with the information.

Police ask citizens not to go along with this tactic, which they say is a scam to defraud residents of their money.

"The Baltimore County Sheriff's Office will never ask you for money over the phone," police said in a statement Wednesday.

"If you receive one of these phone calls, hang up and report the incident to your local precinct," police said. "If you have questions about jury duty, you may also contact the Office of the Jury Commissioner."
