MD Native Who Made Historic Lunar Flyby Returns To Baltimore Co.
Earlier this year, astronaut Reid Wiseman led NASA's first manned lunar mission in decades. Now, he's back in his native Baltimore County.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Astronaut Reid Wiseman, commander of NASA's first manned lunar flyby since the 1970s, is making a hometown return this week in Baltimore County.
The Artemis II astronaut will be returning to his old stomping grounds at Dulaney High School in Timonium, where he'll be serving as the grand marshal for the homecoming parade.
The parade procession gets underway Friday and will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Officials say the parade steps off from Pot Spring Elementary School at 2410 Springlake Drive and will proceed down Padonia Road before coming to a close at Dulaney High School's parking lot.
The community is welcome to attend the event.

Baltimore County Police said road closures would be in effect between Eastridge and Girdwood roads. No parking will be available on Padronia Road between Hartfell Road and Dulaney High School during the parade.
Wiseman is considered one of Baltimore County Public Schools' most distinguished alumni. A graduate of Dulaney's Class of 1993, he also attended Warren Elementary School and Cockeysville Middle School.
Although Wiseman went on to have a decorated career, which included a stay at the International Space Station, he's never forgotten about the county. A blog post from April 2023 details just how close he remained, especially with Dulaney.
Weekend Appearances
Wiseman's return to the region will also see the astronaut make stops in the heart of Baltimore City, where he'll be throwing out the first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles game on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
By Sunday, he'll be catching the Baltimore Ravens battle it out in the home opener against the New Orleans Saints.
"I'm incredibly excited. I'll be at the Ravens game on Sunday, so to get to see in one weekend, to get to see my two hometown sports teams is special," Wiseman told WBAL.
Looking to the future, Wiseman told the outlet that he was looking forward to giving back and watching the next Artemis mission. "I will be very happy cheering them on," he said.
