MacWorld: iTunes Hack Takes Name from Towson

Watch your iTunes store credit, the magazine warns.

Since last November, iTunes users all over the world have been victims of the so-called "Towson Hack." Today, MacWorld published a story on the hack and how it works.

Why Towson? No one can really answer that. But users contend that hackers have been gaining access to accounts that also have store credit, which functions like a gift card. The hackers use the account's store credit to purchase apps, changing the city on the user's address to, usually, Towson and occassionally, Cockeysville and Miami, MacWorld reports.

The particular zip code used in the hack, 21286, covers much of Hampton and some of the east side of Towson.

The hack was first mentioned in an Apple support discussion thread in November.
