My Pennies And My Guardian Angels

Let me give you a bit of my Mind/Body accomplishments which I mentioned in a previous article called  It Is Written On My Heart-Four Persons, of the other day. I did start to take Steven Behr’s advice and also that of my physician assistant Dennis H.Myers. Steven lives in Washington State and Dennis lives here in Baltimore, Maryland. They are my mentors in this.  Dennis is 62 and Steven will be 75 in November. Dennis is becoming a first time grandparent in November and Steven will have his fourth grandchild in a week. They are lucky grandchildren.

These two men are quite special in my life. They are caring about my physical knee problems in almost the same manner. Both agree to the Mind/Body ideas. They believe the mind is a powerful system.

So I tried it out on Thursday evening after dinner. It only took about 15 minutes and I felt good that I had at least tried it. I did it again on Friday morning and evening and then again Saturday morning.

I did something at 210 Saturday afternoon that I had not accomplished perhaps for 6 months. I went to a very hectic place, the Walmart in Towson. If you want tough parking, tough getting into the crowded store and even a longer walk to the elevator, this is it. Of course, they have escalators, but I did not want to attempt going down on one because for the first time in my life, thinking that perhaps naughty right knee might rebel.

I had to go there because Walmart had goofed up in my order for a photo print uploaded to them to become a canvas painting, put in a gold frame 16x20 and shipped to my home for only 97cents. The pricing and delivery and the items I was receiving was 43 dollars. Lo and behold it arrived FedEx on Saturday morning looking quite professional, as if it was an actual painting rather than a photo transferred to canvas.

I looked it over and my husband kept insisting the frame was white instead of gold, he almost convinced me and I have framed oil paintings at various framers for 15 years. Finally, I convinced him this was the canvas attached to board which is what you get usually when you are ready to frame a canvas. They, the almighty Walmart had left the gold frame off. I understand that 43 dollars is quite cheap, but this is what they asked for and advertised a lot about online. I made 5 calls to 5 persons who each told me to call someone else to solve the problem without me sending it back, packing it and costing me about 15 dollars. This took one hour of my time on the phone.

Finally I got a nice salesperson named Bikash who said to bring it in, he would get me a frame there and  he would try to put it in, of course I would need to pay for the frame and the last person on the phone said he would give me a credit of ten dollars for the shipping back. Big Deal! They had no frames for this painting. I left and thanked the kind Walmart salesperson and left.

That was the reason for my trip to Walmart on a busy, busy Saturday. It felt like it was already the week before Christmas 2013.I walked many miles it seemed in Walmart and to and from the parking lot and then we went to rest and ate an early dinner in the same shopping center in Red Robin. Then we proceeded to where I should have gone in the first place Michaels and picked out a lovely frame for 50 dollars plus five for inserting it and putting a wire on the back. They were very nice in Michaels and I was able to walk from the front of the store to the back which seemed like another mile too and I also had to stand at the counter for about 15 minutes waiting for the work to be finished.

The picture is of me and my dance coach at a dance competition in 1983, me wearing an eight hundred dollar custom made dress. Even though it is 30 years old, it is nice to have this hanging now in my dining room reminding me of the past and my accomplishments. It also goes with the décor of the room.

The moral of this story is that if I had not done the  four Mind/Body shall I call them events, I probably would not have even attempted the Walmart excursion, the Red Robin dinner and last of all the Michaels Craft Store journey. I would not have felt that I would have the strength to even give it a thought.

I came home tired which others and I too would have thought a simple trip to some stores for needed items. I came home exhilarated that I could do this and that I made it and I accomplished ordinary things with the not so greatest right knee in the world.

The Mind/Body, shall I call them exercises of the mind and body gave me the hope that I could attempt on a busy Saturday afternoon mainly at Walmart with the crowds of patrons, some not so courteous persons who felt I was walking too slowly with my cane, to rush by me without a thought of an old lady trying to do something hard for me.That is OK, I conquered them and as George Carlin wrote:

“I found a penny today. Just lying on the ground. It is not just a penny that is what my Grandma told me. She said Angels toss them down and when an Angel misses you, they toss that penny down. Sometimes just to cheer you up and to make you smile. So don’t pass by that penny, when you are feeling blue, it may be a penny from heaven that your guardian Angel tossed to you.”

When I was a kid, we were told that the penny found would bring you good luck.

I did not have time to look down for a penny on my trip to the shopping center. I know it was there waiting for me.

When Steven Behr and Dennis Myers help my aching knees with their thoughts, which is my penny that awaits me. They are my pennies assisting Elita in her old senior age, who mind wise is raring to go dancing, to go to malls, visit her grandchildren and still live life to her fullest with her beloved Jerry of 53 years and of course to relate all these journeys to the readers. Steven and Dennis are my guardian Angels and this is what a penny from Heaven is down on this Earth.
