No Rivalry For Burger Bros.

Burger Bros. offers a trendy atmosphere, classic foods

The yellow and lime green walls, red-topped tables, low-hanging steel lamps and classic rock give Burger Bros. an 80s retro look, but the Allegheny Avenue restaurant's décor and menu make a great fit for Towson's down-to-earth lifestyle and residents.

On a Friday afternoon, we ordered from a menu of American classics—hamburgers and fries, hot dogs, Buffalo wings and onion rings. The menu also included a grilled or crispy chicken a variety of salads–Greek, Caesar and their own version. They also promoted their new fish and chips.

Off the menu, we indulged in the cheeseburger ($5.49), the hamburger ($4.99), the grilled chicken sandwich and the crispy chicken sandwich, both with cheese ($5.79), a single order of boneless barbecue Buffalo wings ($7.59 for 10-12 wings), a large order of onion rings ($5.69) and a small order of fries ($1.69). The beverages included a small raspberry-lemonade ($1.99), a small lemonade ($1.69), a large fountain soda ($1.99) and a bottled water ($1.49).

There is an extensive list of toppings and condiments for hamburgers and cheese burgers from ketchup, mustard and pickles, to different cheeses from Swiss to feta.

The burgers were not too big to handle, but not too small to be going for seconds. The buns seemed lightly toasted, but still fluffy and soft. The lettuce, tomatoes and pickles added seemed fresh and were not wilted or soggy. All together, it would seem that the burgers would be their speciality, but instead it was just palatable. Nothing in the taste made us think to go for seconds.

Both the grilled and crispy chicken sandwiches were a bit dry, however, with some toppings and ketchup, they ended up being an appetizing meal.

The high of the lunch were the Buffalo wings, onion rings and fries. The wings were smothered, but not drenched in a tangy with a hint sauce. It was absolutely divine with every bite. Not one wing was dry or chewy, instead they were tender and mouth-watering. The wings are definitelyworth another visit to Burger Bros.

The fries were just right –not oily or dry. Extra salt is not necessary and they tasted somewhat similar to boardwalk fries. A single order of fries was very fulfilling and perhaps balanced out the mediocrity in taste of the burgers.

As for the onion rings, they were battered to perfection. With not one ring misshapened, the well fried and golden-brown. The taste was comforting, which is always good when it comes to less healthy food such as these.

Overall, Burger Bros. is reasonably priced. The servers are friendly and conversational, and it's a good place for a lunch breaks and if you are craving those American favorites for a late-night meal.
