Officer Shoots Man Reaching For Gun: Baltimore County Police

BREAKING: The suspect in police-involved shooting was taken to shock trauma, police reported.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — An officer shot and injured a man near Loch Raven Heights Wednesday morning when the suspect reached for a gun as law enforcement approached, police said.

The officer was responding to a 4:30 a.m. call about a person trying to break into cars near Hillendale Road at Northview Road, where authorities said the policeman came across a man with his back turned.

When the officer walked toward and addressed him, the 27-year-old turned around and reached for a gun in his waistband, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department.

Despite the officer ordering the man to stop, the suspect continued reaching for the gun, and the officer fired multiple shots, hitting the suspect in the lower body.

Police said a gun was found at the scene.

The suspect was taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment, police said. His condition was not immediately available.
