Police Identify Killer in Cromwood Road Murder-Suicide

While a motive was unclear, police said family faced financial troubles.

Police have determined the father was responsible for a murder-suicide in Baltimore County that left a family of three dead last week.

Gilbert Mendoza, 50, killed his daughter and wife, then stabbed and shot himself in their Cromwood Road home, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

“Detectives cannot specify why this tragedy occurred,” police said in a statement Wednesday. “The investigation did reveal that the family faced financial troubles.”

Police said the injuries and how the family members were found in their home on Cromwood Road April 10 helped them identify who the killer was.

Molly Mendoza, 15, was found with a single gunshot wound in bed in a second-floor bedroom, according to police.

Her mother, Vedrana Mendoza, 40, had multiple stab wounds and multiple gunshot wounds when she was discovered in bed in a first-floor bedroom, police said.

Gilbert Mendoza was also in the bed with multiple stab wounds and one gunshot wound, according to police. Detectives believe the stab wounds were self-inflicted, before he turned the gun on himself.

Molly Mendoza was a student at Loch Raven High School and worked at Oak Crest in Parkville, where her mother Vedrana Mendoza was also employed, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported Gilbert Mendoza was a waiter at a hotel.

The day before murder-suicide, a neighbor told WBAL that Gilbert Mendoza and his daughter were seen playing badminton outside.
