Ellison W. Ensor passed away on Friday, March 18. He spent more than 30 years serving the Baltimore County Police Department.
Retired Baltimore County Police Chief Ellison W. Ensor passed away Friday, March 18. He was 98.
Ensor led the Baltimore County Police Department from 1967 to 1975.
His career at the department spanned more than three decades, as he originally joined Baltimore County's police force in 1941. He was promoted to corporal in the Cockeysville precinct in 1947, sergeant in Towson later that year, lieutenant in central Baltimore County in 1952 and chief in 1968.

As chief, Ensor had a role that included overseeing civil defense and jail bureaus. His leadership brought on more opportunities.
"Ensor’s successful law enforcement career drew the attention of Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel, who appointed him to two terms of three years on the Maryland Police Training Commission," Baltimore County public safety officials said in a statement. "He also served on the Governor’s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice. In addition, he was a 1965 graduate of the FBI National Academy and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police as well as the Maryland Chiefs of Police."

Before becoming a police officer, Ensor graduated from Towson High School in 1936.
Visitation will be Monday, March 21, 2016, at the family-owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Rd. (beltway exit 26), from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. from St. John the Evangelist, Hydes Catholic Church, 13305 Long Green Pike.
Interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Baltimore County Police Assistance & Relief Fund 700 E.
