Robberies, Smash-And-Grab Burglaries Trend In Towson: Police

Police said two types of crimes in Towson were part of a trend this week.

TOWSON, MD — Commercial burglaries and street robberies on the radar of police in the Towson precinct. Each week the Baltimore County Police Department releases any current crime trends, and both of these types of incidents rose to the level of notice for police in Towson, according to the report released Wednesday, April 26.

Three commercial burglaries appeared to be related in the Towson precinct since Saturday, April 15, according to police. Money and cigarettes were taken from the businesses, where authorities said front door or window glass was shattered to access the establishments.

  • A rock was used to break the glass door at Central Asia Carry Out in the 1300 block of Goucher Boulevard between 10 p.m. on April 25 and 1:30 a.m. on April 26. Cash and two cases of soda were stolen in the burglary, police reported.
  • The front glass door was broken at Central Asia Carry Out the day before as well, according to officials. That break-in happened between 8:30 p.m. on April 24 and 12:36 a.m. on April 25. Cash was stolen from the tip jar in the burglary.
  • The window at Pappas Restaurant and Sports Bar was shattered in the 1700 block of Taylor Avenue at 3:50 a.m. Two cartons of cigarettes were stolen, according to police.

In addition to commercial burglaries, there have been three street robberies on York Road and Walker Avenue since Sunday, April 23, the report said.

All three robberies occurred on Sunday; two happened in the early morning and one in the evening, police reported. A weapon was used in one of the incidents, according to officials. In two other cases, the suspects approached the pedestrians using a vehicle. In one case, authorities said the suspects approached and assaulted the victim on the street and took property.

  • A man was walking in the 600 block of Walker Avenue at 9:10 p.m. on April 23 when two armed individuals assaulted him and robbed him of his cell phone and cash, police said.
  • Three people robbed a woman on York at Murdock roads at 1:50 a.m. on April 23. The suspects approached the woman and asked her for her property, according to officials, who said she gave them a purse containing cash, debit card, keys, personal identification and cell phone.
  • A man was assaulted and robbed on York at Yarmouth roads at 1:45 a.m. on April 23, according to police. The suspect had approached the pedestrian and asked for change, then proceeded to assault the victim and rob him of his wallet and cell phone.
