Schools in Hereford Zone Opening Late on Friday in Baltimore County

BREAKING: Baltimore County Public Schools announced school was starting late in one zone of the county Friday morning.

TOWSON, MD — Some schools were opening two hours late due to inclement weather in northern Baltimore County Friday morning, officials said.

Schools in the Hereford Zone — Fifth District Elementary, Hereford High, Hereford Middle, Jacksonville Elementary, Prettyboy Elementary, Seventh District Elementary and Sparks Elementary — were on a two-hour delay Friday, according to Baltimore County Public Schools.

All other public schools and offices are opening on time Friday, officials said.

McDonogh School will open two hours late.

After-school activities were canceled Thursday in Baltimore County Public Schools because of snowfall that began in the afternoon.

Due to the overnight precipitation, transportation officials encouraged drivers to expect slick conditions.

"Allow extra time for your morning commute," the Maryland Transportation Authority advised. "Potential remains for slick spots on untreated surfaces. If it looks wet, think ice!"
