TOWSON, MD — Artwork created by a Stoneleigh Elementary School student could make its way across the state. Flory Thomas is a finalist in the "I Voted" sticker competition sponsored by the Maryland State Board of Elections.

Thomas, who is a fifth grader in Jon Tolerton’s class at Stoneleigh Elementary School, is one of three Maryland elementary school finalists.

To participate in the contest, students in grades prekindergarten through 12 were asked to create a design inspired by Maryland, voting or elections in Maryland.

A panel of guest artists from regions around the state judged more than 650 submissions for concept, creativity, technique and craftsmanship.

They whittled it down to the finalists, and online voting is open to determine the best in each category — elementary, middle and high school. The winning designs will be put on "I Voted" stickers that will be available at Maryland polling places in 2020.

Flory's is classified as the "yellow" option in the online contest at the elementary school level.

The winner in each category will receive a $100 gift card for art supplies, and the teacher of each winning student will get a $500 gift card for art supplies or equipment for the school or art program, contest organizers say.

The Stoneleigh student has Laura Patacca-Kerr as her art teacher, according to Baltimore County Public Schools.

Online voting began Tuesday and will continue through Friday, Nov. 15.
