No need to be jealous of those Californians any longer (aside from their near-perfect weather); it’s time to ditch the sour grapes and explore what Baltimore County’s wine country has to offer. Whether you are a bona fide wine snob, or are a fan of the rosy-colored sweet stuff that comes by box instead of bottle: our local wineries and vineyards offer something for every taste and interest.
Baltimore County is home to five wineries, each with their own distinct vibe and taste. Basignani, Boordy, DeJon, Royal Rabbit, and Woodhall are spread throughout northern Baltimore County’s renowned horse country. This region is especially well-suited for growing Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Gris grape varieties.
The best way to explore the area’s wineries, and their offerings, is by following the Piedmont Wine Trail. The trail stops at 10 locations, as it winds through the picturesque rolling hills of Harford and Baltimore Counties. Although it’s hard to believe, you’re still just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
