The Hands Of Our Lives

On 4/18/13 I wrote an article called  Ordinary Accomplishments That Become Excellent Events. It was all about me getting a Cortisone shot in my left hand due to Carpal Tunnel. It was diagnosed by a specialist, a hand doctor named Dr. Peter C. Innis and how grateful I was to have had him do this for me.

Without the shot and the diagnosis being correct, I would not be able to type these articles on the computer and to share my hopefully worthwhile thoughts on this paper. Dr. Innis is a humble physician and today I made a follow up visit with him to check on how I am doing.

Everything turned out fine and I am in no pain, no discomfort and I painted my nails with a special new polka dot color to show them off in their 'fixed' glory. We are lucky when we can get relief from our ailments so quickly and it was my own 'genius' that told my brain go and see Dr. Innis. I had been there before several years ago for what is called a trigger finger. This is when the thumb in my case flopped back and forth. He gave me one shot in May 2010 and another one at the end of the year and voila, no trouble since.

When your hands ache or your shoulders ache, it is not conducive to writing or creating stories or articles.

Dr.Innis is a fine hand surgeon and he can be relied upon to look into alternatives rather than surgery. This is what he did for me in April and now today I pronounced him one of my favorite doctors. He is clear in his explanation of what is wrong and also in his pronouncements of helping the situation. I am glad to have him on my 'team' because I know I have someone who is knowledgeable and kind and also good looking. Hey, Dr. Innis, this is all true, so this story is dedicated to you, my favorite hand doctor.

We are quite fortunate  if we have superior medical people in our corner, especially as seniors. We are lucky also to have them available to us and that their offices are convenient to our homes.

Dad use to say if you write a story or a letter to the editor of a newspaper, make sure they spell your name right. I try to spell everything correctly in my articles and when your hand hurts as you type, it is easy to hit a wrong key. When I was hurting before seeing Dr. Peter C. Innis, I would tire from the typing and I had to make sure the words and especially the names were typed correctly.

There is a saying" "Happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself to other people." I can compare Dr. Innis to every top doctor I visit. He sure is special and he figured out immediately what was hurting this old senior gal and by him doing so; he gave me back my spirit to write my stories/articles which makes me happy and I can continue to inspire my readers to go out and do things they always wanted to accomplish regardless of their now age.

We do not realize how we depend on our knees, hands, shoulders and our various parts of our bodies to keep going until something goes wrong there.

So thank you Dr. Peter C. Innis for helping me to continue on this that I love and crave to do daily and that is to write articles that encourage everyone regardless of age to enhance their lives and to try something new to color their daily living with happiness. Bravo to our hands and fingers that allow us to live life easier. Bravo to you too, Dr. Innis.
