Thieves Targeting Towson Vehicles: Police Captain

Police said that there were almost a dozen thefts from vehicles in Towson neighborhoods this week.

TOWSON, MD — A string of thefts from vehicles in Towson area neighborhoods this week prompted Captain Jan R. Brown to issue a safety tip. Brown, who oversees the Towson precinct, said that many of the vehicles were unlocked.

"Please be vigilant about keeping vehicles locked at all times, even when you are at home and during the day," Brown said.

Nearly a dozen vehicles were targeted by thieves in recent weeks, police reported. Areas affected included Stoneleigh, Idlewylde, Anneslie and Overbrook, according to authorities.

"Remember to remove all valuables from the vehicle. If something needs to be kept in your vehicle, make sure that it is not in view of peeping thieves. Even loose change in the cup holder can be enticing enough to cause a thief to break in to your vehicle," Brown said.

As cold weather arrives, police also remind residents not to leave vehicles running unattended.
