Three Convicted in Deadly Welcome Inn Shooting: State's Attorney

A dispute preceded homicide, Baltimore County State's Attorney reports.

A jury convicted three men of murder in the fatal shooting of a man near Welcome Inn last summer, according to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Jermel Foster, 20, Nathaniel Lawrence, 21, and Pompey Lawrence, 22, were convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder, the state’s attorney reported.

All three were present at the time of the shooting, which occurred at 10:48 p.m. on Aug. 17, 2014, in the 8700 block of Loch Bend Drive, according to the report.

Baker had been in an ongoing dispute with Pompey Lawrence and had a fight with him earlier in the day, the state’s attorney reported.

Under Pompey Lawrence’s direction, officials said Foster shot Baker outside the victim’s motel room, with assistance from Nathaniel Lawrence.

The Lawrences and Foster were convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and use of a handgun, the state’s attorney reported.

Judge Mickey J. Norman reportedly ordered pre-sentence investigations.

That means officials will look at the individuals’ criminal records and histories in the context of the crime to determine whether a harsher sentence or a more lenient sentence should be imposed.

Court records show that the state’s attorney has requested a sentence of life without parole.
