TOWSON, MD — A restaurant known for its female staff has gone out of business in Towson. Hooters closed this week on Joppa Road in Towson.
The front sign has been removed from the building, where passersby on the sidewalk did a double-take when Patch stopped by. "Hooters is gone?" they said in disbelief. "It was just there!"
There are now a handful of Hooters restaurants in Maryland — at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, on US 1 in Laurel, on MD 301 in Waldorf, off US 50 in west Ocean City and on the Boardwalk in Ocean City.

A sign on the door at the former Towson location announced the closure, saying it took effect at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. There was no reason given for the shuttering.
The Hooters in Rockville closed in 2016 after a deadly crash that killed a Montgomery County policeman who was conducting a traffic stop. Authorities said the restaurant served alcoholic drinks to the driver who later struck and killed Officer Noah Leotta. It was reportedly going to be the subject of a hearing and could have lost its liquor license should it have decided to remain open.
