Towson Times: American Legion Staying Put

Loni Ingraham reports that American Legion Post 22, on York Road, has rebuffed several offers to sell its property in recent months, most notably from Towson University.

The 5.5 acre legion post, which has been there for 87 years, is prime real estate that isn't marked on maps drawn up by Towson's Urban Design Assistance Team in 2007.

The legion makes considerable money off leasing not only the hall space for weddings and other events, but its 500 parking spaces to local businesses and its field to the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council.

Officials express doubt the county would exert eminent domain over the property, however.
