Towson Town Center Modifies Curfew Hours Through January 1, 2019

TOWSON, MD — A new curfew is in effect for the week between Christmas 2018 and New Year's Day 2019. The Towson Town Center issued guidance that mall-goers under 18 must be with an adult who is at least 21 years old after 1 p.m. daily from Wednesday, Dec. 26, to Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Usually, the curfew is for weekends only, but it has been implemented for the busy holiday week.

And instead of 5 p.m., which has been the typical time when youths must have someone older with them, now the curfew starts at 1 p.m. through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019.

The mall first instituted a curfew on weekends in 2016 to "enhance the shopping experience in ways the entire community will appreciate," the manager of Towson Town Center said at the time.

The policy came after an officer was hit by a rock outside the Towson mall when a large group of youths gathered outside after the mall closed the day after Christmas 2015.

Since the curfew began in 2016, it has applied to weekends only; those under 18 must be with someone who is at least 21 after 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. One adult can escort up to four youths.

New signage is up alerting shoppers about the curfew this week, according to Fox 45.

Driver's license, military ID, school ID and passport are acceptable for proof of age, and those who are old enough to be unaccompanied in the mall will receive an optional wristband. Those who do not wear the wristband may be subject to an ID check.
